Default Word Won't Display the Correct Document

(Sorry for the dual post)
If I have several documents already open and then go to open another, that
document that I open doesn't become the active document window, one of the
other documents that I have open becomes the active document window. So then
I have to go down to the task bar and then click on the document that I
opened.

Has anyone else seen this or have a workaround?

Thanks

Have you tried minimizing all other documents, before opening another? If
so, they shouldn't all expand at once. The previous document accessed will
most likely expand, but that would be the only one to minimize again, before
you get to the very last one. The more you open, the more difficult it
becomes. If there's a workaround, I sure would like to know.
