Opening Word 2003, the cursor is on the first line, no top margin. (Page
setup indicates margin setting is normal). Found out by Viewing Header,
closing it, cursor moves to normal position with top margin in place!!!
Then saved document as doc1.dot, deleted normal.dot and renamed doc1.dot
as normal.dot, but still no luck! What can I do to remedy?

It isn't corrupt. You just need to turn on the White Space option. See
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/WhiteSpace.htm.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | View | check the "White space
between pages" box | OK.

Hi Impacter,

Opening Word 2003, the cursor is on the first line, no top margin. (Page
setup indicates margin setting is normal). Found out by Viewing Header,
closing it, cursor moves to normal position with top margin in place!!!
Then saved document as doc1.dot, deleted normal.dot and renamed doc1.dot
as normal.dot, but still no luck!

Tools/Options/View: there should be a check box about showing "white
space". Activate this. OR

Just click on the top edge of what you can see of the page.

Sometimes, it's easier to scroll/scan a document when the margins are
hidden. I like the feature, but if you don't know it's there it can be
disconcerting :-)

Hi Impacter,

To add to the previous replies you can also add to the View menu in Word an item to toggle on/off the 'white space between page'
choice.

Tools=Customize=Options=Commands.
Select 'view' in the category list and drag the
'White space between pages'
command to the View menu.

Normal.dot was and is fine. You've just discovered a new feature of Word
2003!

Tools Options View (tab)

Check "White space between pages" in the Print and Web Layout Options
section.

You can turn this off (or on) with an errant mouse click on your screen but
it is easier to turn off that way than it is to turn it back on. If you go
to the gray area between pages with your pointer, it will turn into a couple
of white blocks, one over the other. The tool tip is "Hide white space" or
"Show white space." See http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/WhiteSpace.htm.
