Their all gone. Editing and Formatting Icons that usually display below the
pulldown menus are gone too. How to restore them? I tried removing Word 2000
then reinstalling. Even used a different CD, on an MS Works CD but the
toolbars did not reappear.

I had this problem too. It appeared to be a corrupt entry in the
registry. I had to delete some entries in the registry. Caution
should be taken when editing the registry settings.

Not sure if what I did will work for you, but here is what I did.

Under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER-Software-Microsoft-Office-11.0-Visio-Application

I deleted the following entries:
CustomMenusFile
CustomToolbarsFile

It fixed my problem.
