Default Why does Word refuse to respond when I try to open it?

I cannot get Word to open and respond properly - there appears to be some
conflict between it and McAfee Security programs especially Personal
Firewall. The symptom is that the cursor is frozen, and refuses to respond.
Task Manager then tells me program is not responding. This happens too if I
try to open an existing Word document e.g one saved in My Documents: the doc
opens, but I cannot edit it as the cursor is frozen/locked and there is no
response. Is my copy of Word [ part of Office 2000] corrupted? Excell &
Powerpoint behave perfectly well . If this is the case, what do I do, please?
Will MS supply a downloaded uncorrupted replacement copy? If s, from where,
please?
