I have a document with 171 pages but I only want page numbers on page 4-171
with page 4 starting with number 1. How can I do this without putting
numbers on pages 1-3?

You need to insert a section break after page 3 then double click the footer
on page 4 and click on "Same as Prev" then number your your pages onwards
starting as 1. Delete any page numbers on the pages that you do not want
numbered if it is.
