Links no longer updating
I have set up some Word documents as templates. They have links to an Excel
file, so that when I change a cell in the Excel file, the information flows through the report next time I update the links. When I start a new project, I copy the template and the Excel file into a new folder, press Ctrl+F9 and do a search and replace to make the document's links point to the new correct Excel file. This has worked fine for over a year. Now, suddenly, when I open the Word document and it prompts me if I want to update the links, I say yes. I get the little progress bar down at the bottom of the screen, but the links do not update. In order to update the links, I now have to highlight the whole document and press F9. It also takes literally 5 times as long for the process to finish doing it this way rather than how long it took for the links to update upon open before. I have Office98. The setting for ToolsOptionsGeneralUpdate automatic links at Open is checked. I've tried reinstalling Office, but it hasn't helped. As a side question, I used to get a prompt when I opened Word asking me if I wanted to update the links. Now, it either doesn't do it when the above preference isn't checked, or automatically goes into updating them if it is. Where is the option for this prompt? |

Links no longer updating
EDIT: I don't have Office98. That was a brainfart. I have Office XP Pro.
