Default How set single space default in Word 2003?

Hello:
There seems to be no "set as default" button in page Format. I prefer
single-space typing and even after setting Before/After to 0 pt, and Line
Spacing at single, there is no way to save the setting -- opening a new
document reverts to double-space. How can I set a default single-space?
Any help will be appreciated!

Line spacing is an attribute of the style, not of the page format. Define
your normal style as you want it.
