Default WORD docs transferred as "wordpad" docs

When I transferred my data onto my new computer, all of my WORD documents now
show up as WORDPAD docs. I have installed Microsoft Office 2003 onto the new
computer. Any suggestions as to how to reformat my WORD docs back to their
original WORD format?

THANKS!!!!!
