Default Skipif able to stop printing altogether?

I have a merge document that I only want to print if certain criteria are met.
I have tried using skipif, it works fine if there is multiple records and
some of them print. However, if none of the records meet the criteria Word
stops with a 'no records found to merge' error. how can I get round this?
TIA
Graham
