Default ".0" added to zip code in Word 2003

I'm using Word 2003, and for some reason, when mail merging with an
Excel database file, Word will add ".0" to the zip code, resulting in
something like this:

Mr. Melvin M Person
1710 Alder Creek Ct
San Jose, CA 95148.0 (note the extraneous 0)

I'm out of my mind trying to figure this problem out. This hasn't
happened until recently.

Default ".0" added to zip code in Word 2003

After toggling the field codes, I get this for the address block:

{ ADDRESSBLOCK \f "_TITLE0__FIRST0__LAST0__SUFFIX0 _
_STREET1__STREET2__CITY__STATE__ POSTAL_
_COUNTRY_" \l 1033 \c 2 \e "United States" \d }

I've looked at the link you gave, but it deals with "MERGEFIELD", and
after trying the numeric switch, the zip code wouldn't appear at all.

Unfortunately you cannot do this with the addressblock field. The
addressblock field is fine when it works, but it doesn't always work (though
it seems better in Word 2007 than in earlier versions) Instead of using this
field, insert the individual fields that make up the address in the layout
you require them.
See also http://www.gmayor.com/mail_merge_lab...th_word_xp.htm or
http://www.gmayor.com/merge_labels_with_word_2007.htm which cover general
mail merge issues.
