DON'T ask if I want to save when closing a document
Word asks me if I want to save a document every time I close it, even though
I DIDN'T make any changes to the document. This is very annoying. How do I get Word to stop asking me to save when the document hasn't changed? |

Do you have a date field in the header or footer (or anywhere) that
dynamically changes when you open the document? If you do, Word considers it a change, which is why you are getting the Save message. You need to turn off smart tags. With a word document open to go Tools
Options choose the View tab and uncheck the "smart tags" box. It is in the first section of the "View" tab. Click ok. Then close the document. It may ask if you want to save changes. Click yes. That will probably be the last time you will ever have that problem. DON'T ask if I want to save when closing a document
"Ron" wrote: Sorry to revive an old thread, but I am having this problem even though I unchecked the Smart Tags box. If I open the document and don't do anything it will close, but if I just scroll or down arrow once, or even just left-click anywhere on the document, it will ask if I want to save. This doesn't happen to all my word documents and I have been unable to establish a trend or determine which documents are affected. "Sig" wrote: Yee ha! Thanks! Sorry not for this post. I just registered and somehow this post got input

DON'T ask if I want to save when closing a document
If you do anything that would cause the document to be repaginated, then
fields in the header will be updated. This may or may not be reflected as an "Update Fields" item in the Undo list. -- Suzanne S.
