Default Default Tabs Question

Hi,

We have Windows XP and Word 2003. We got a document from another party and
noticed that the default tab sets are gone (there are no "hash" marks
identifying the default tab stops every .05" on the ruler bar).

I know one solution is to copy the document into a new blank Word document.

I know we could also go into Format - Tabs and reset the Default Tab Stops
at every .05" -- but I would have to select the entire document first.

Is there a way I can restore Word's default tabs by going into, for example,
Normal Style?

Basically, I am just looking for the most efficient way to restore Word's
default tab stops within an existing document.

Thanks!
Rosemary

Default Default Tabs Question

Actually, the default is every .5", not every .05".

Assuming you really want to restore all of the default tabs, what do you
have against selecting the entire document? Just press Ctrl+A. Then Format -
Paragraph - Tabs, Clear All, OK, and presto! (This will affect only things
that are selected by Ctrl+A.)

There is a way to reapply the settings from the Normal.dot template. This
has an effect only on styles that exist in both the current document and in
Normal.dot. Tools - Templates and Add-ins. Attach, Normal.dot, and enable
"Automatically update document styles". Note that depending on how much
direct formatting and style modifying the author has done, this could have a
considerable impact on the document's look.

Default Default Tabs Question

Thanks Herb - I realized I'd made the .05 typo after submitting my post.
Thanks also for your feedback - I just wanted to make sure I was doing it the
most efficient way. Thanks!
