Default Line Numbering?

Hello,

Someone sent me a document the on the left has numbers that look like it
counts the number of lines between paragraphs. For example: if one number is
37 the next number will be 44 and I count 7 lines from one to the other. When
I place my cursor over the number, it doesn't do anything except point to the
right instead of the left. First, what is this? Second, how do I get rid of
it?

Thanks!!

Line numbering in Word is controlled from the Layout tab of Page Setup.
Seven seems an odd number to count by, but who knows?

To: Stockwell43,

Goto: File Page Setup Layout (tab) & click on "Line Numbers"

Or for Word 2007:
1. Open the Page Layout ribbon
2. Click Line Numbers in the Page Setup section
3. Select your options from the popup menu
