Default type in japanese

I am trying to type japanese on microsoft wood 2003. I have The IME for the
language but the symbols dont match the keys(t=ka, p=se) and the japanese
characters assigned to the number keys (which are the japanese vowels) will
not register when I try to type a number. how can I set it so when I type the
letter G i will see a G then when I type ge it will show me the symbol for
"ge" and so forth? this seems to be impossible. I have tried everything.

You should, perhaps, try asking this in the word.international.features
