Unable to type a new document. Am told word is in the lock position. HELP!!
Don't know what to do next.

If you have a new document and it is locked, you should be able to
unlock from the Unprotect Document in the Tools menu.

If you have had the Forms Toolbar open, you may have lock by clicking
on the Lock button.

2. Sounds like it was a trial edition and you've run out of time. Nothing to
do except pay for the program.

Have you activated Office? Click Help Activate Product and see what
