[frustrated]

I'm running Word 2007 and Vista Business with several users on the same
computer. I want to make the autocorrect options created for one user
available to another user, without having to retype them all. I can't see
where the autocorrect options are stored. Previous answers on this topic
refer to earlier versions of Windows and Word and don't seem to apply in my
case. (E.g. I don't have any mso*.acl files on my computer)

Any help would be much appreciated!

Download http://jay-freedman.info/AutoCorrect2007.zip. Unzip it, and copy
the resulting template into the Templates folder of each user on the
computer. For each user, that's (by default) C:\Users\user
name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates. In order to see this folder,
first you have to enable display of hidden folders because AppData and
everything under it is hidden. In the Computer application (formerly Windows
Explorer), press Alt+T to open the Tools menu, select Folder Options, go to
the View tab, and select "Show hidden files and folders".

Sign in as the user that has the entries, make a new document based on the
AutoCorrect.dotm template, and click the Backup button. That creates a
document containing all the entries available to that user. Save the
document in a folder that's available to all the users, such as the Public
Documents folder.

Sign in as each of the other users, make a new document based on the
AutoCorrect.dotm template, and click the Restore button. When it displays
the Open dialog, choose the document created by the first user.

By the way, you do have at least one mso*.acl file if any of your
autocorrect entries are unformatted. It's stored in the folder
C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Office. Until you set the
option to display hidden files and folders, you wouldn't be able to see it,
and a search wouldn't find it.

Fantastic! This worked.

I might just mention that the reason I had to do this is that I have to
continually create new users as the old ones get corrupted. The symptoms are
that every now and then Word gets into "not responding" mode and freezes. I
have tried reinstalling Word and even Vista but nothing works (yes, I have
SP1). The solution eventually offered by Dell support is to create a new
user. This overcomes the problem but at the cost of losing all my settings
--- till now.
