Unhappy Ruler starts at 1

Hi, I've looked at other answers regarding this but it doesn't apply to what I'm experiencing.

My left horz ruler begins at 1, then 0 then back to 1. My right ends at 7.25.
My margins are set at top/bottom 1" and l/r 1.25". I've deleted the normal template twice. I'd love to attach a screen shot but I can't on this forum. I've tried everything I've read to fix but nothing works and I have a big lecture tomorrow on MS word formatting.

Help!

In Word, the start of the left margin is zero on the ruler; this is by
design. Since I use centimeters, I see 2 cm, 1 cm, 0, and then 1, 2, 3 cm
again.

When you open Word, where do you see these margins? Elementary question, I know

You have to display the horizontal ruler, since it may not be visible by
default. Assuming that you are using Word 2007 or later, click the "Ruler"
option on the View tab (in the "Show" group).

Got it! Thanks for the tip - it was there in the past, but was removed somehow.
I'm running Office 2013, probably got removed in some Windows Update!

Thanks again.

You are welcome.

It's possible that you "lost" the ruler when you installed a new version of
Office. I don't remember for certain, but I think that the ruler isn't
displayed by default.

You have to count on customizing every (new) installation of a product, not
just Word/Office, to suit your needs. Unfortunately, this isn't necessarily
getting easier with newer versions of software. :-(

On the contrary, it seems to me that the software industry as a whole tries
to make interfaces as "clean" as possible, meaning that useful features are
hidden by default, in a fresh installation. sigh
