Default Weird margin problem

In Word 2000, I have a document that refuses to accept any changes to
margins in Page Setup. I get an error message that reads something like
margins chosen are too wide for some sections. I cleared every section
break to try to find the culprit and all pages/sections have the identical
margins. All paragraphs are extended -0.5 inch from the right margin, while
left, right, top and bottom margins are identical at 1.0 inch. None of the
paragraphs are formatted for a "minus" margin either.

Very perplexing.

This sometimes results from a weird glitch in the Columns dialog. Ctrl+A to
select the entire document and go to Format | Columns. Click on the picture
that says One (even if one column is already selected). This will check the
box for "Equal column width" and should solve your problem.
