How do I align TOC levels?
I am using Word 2003 and am working on some documents that someone else
started. The headings are outline-numbered (1, 1.1, 1.2). I want to align the entries in my Table of Contents so that the 2nd-level heading (1.1) aligns left with the text of the 1st-level heading (1). I can do this by moving the tab on the ruler, but when I refresh the TOC using F9, I lose the reformatting. What controls this alignment? My styles for the TOC entries, or something else? Thanks! |

TOC styles govern the alignment, but see

First add the \w switch to the TOC field code: Press ALT+F9. Word
displays your TOC similar to { TOC \o "1-3" }. In the end of this code, type \w. Press F9 to update the field. If prompted, make sure that you choose to update the entire table. Press ALT+F9 again to display field result. Now, you should be able to drag the tab stops to the desired location, and Word shouldn't recreate the "Jason tabs" on subsequent updates of the TOC. -- Stefan Blom "LisaH" wrote in message news I am using Word 2003 and am working on some documents that someone else started.
