I cannot get Heading 1 entries to automatically change. Heading 2 and 3
entries are fine so I end up with:

A
A.1
A.2
A.2.1
A.2.2
A

Have you set up your outline numbering using the steps prescribed at
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...umbering.html? If not,
read that article and follow the steps in there to set up your numbering.
