The ONLY way you can do that (and even then it's not recommended) is to format a CDRW disk for packet writing. To do that you will need a third-party CD burning application such as Nero as the native XP Cd burning function won't do it. |

If you want to be able to use your documents, when working within Word, act
as if your floppy drive does not exist! (This applies to CDRW/CDR drives as well.) Don't use Word to: Open a document on a floppy Print a document on a floppy Edit a document on a floppy Save a document to a floppy (not even a copy) Word regularly trashes documents on floppy drives! Instead, work on the document using your hard drive. Copy it back and forth using Windows. I know that for some with shared computers (libraries, schools) this is a tough prescription. All I can recommend for that is to use a brand new formatted disk each time you save and don't do any editing. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://www.mvps.org/word which is awesome! --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- This message is posted to a newsgroup. Ok, I understand the theory. When I open the document in word (which is
where it is now), what format am I saving it as on the hard drive? RTF? When I tried that it copied onto the CDRW as a word document. Since it is my resume and references I am usually asked to send as RTF anyway. Where did I go wrong? Also, will it always be 'read only' "Charles Kenyon" wrote: If you want to be able to use your documents, when working within Word, act as if your floppy drive does not exist! You should be fine if you:
(1) Save the word document file as .RTF (2) Copy the .RTF file to CD-ROM Yes, files copied to CD-ROM will always have a read-only designation. This can be overcome by copying the .RTF file back to a hard drive and opening MS Explorer. Find the subject .RTF file, highlight it, right-click on the file, choose Properties, and uncheck the file's read-only attribute. Then close the file. Good luck! "4catsme" wrote in message ...
