[Bugsy]

When I roll over a file in the list generated by "File:Open" the balloon
with "Type, Author, etc" appears.

Is there a way to turn that balloon off?

Using Word 2002 on XP

That's a Tool Tip in Windows Explorer. They can be turned off in Word,
Excel, etc., but I dont' think you can turn them on and off in Windows. They
can be modified (color, font, etc.) in Windows properties, but I dont' think
you can get rid of them or delete them.

You can disable them in Windows. In Windows Explorer (My Computer), Tools |
Folder Options | View, clear the check box for "Show pop-up description for
folder and desktop items."
