I have typed some French text in word but now when I type a colon there
becomes automatically a space before the colon.

That's because you have "Detect language automatically" checked in Tools |
Language | Set Language. Word has detected that this is French, as applied
the French language formatting to it, and is following the punctuation rules
for French.
