Default How do I stop Word 2003 from opening up documents in a Reading Lay

Whenever I open a document someone has sent me it opens in 'Reading Layout'
so I thne have to click 'view' and 'print layout' then I close the 'Getting
started' box, which all seems like a lot of hassle!?!

In Tools Options General, uncheck the box for "Allow starting in
Reading Layout".

I keep reseting the checkbox but it keeps coming back like a bad headache. I
agree with other posters, why on earth did Microsoft chose the reading layout
as the default? It makes no sense.

If your options are not being saved, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm for instructions on
rebuilding the Word Data key in the Registry. Alternatively, it's possible
that an add-in is changing your settings.

Also, Reading Layout is *not* the default view except for documents opened
from Outlook attachments (which itself is a horrible idea that causes data
loss if you edit and think you've saved). If you're opening documents
directly from files saved on your disk and they're coming up in Reading
Layout, something is wrong with your installation.
