I've never seen them to the right of text (unless perhaps this is RTL
text?), but if they're on the left, they mean that the paragraph has one or more of these properties: Keep with next Keep lines together Page break before Suppress line numbering For more, see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm -- Suzanne S. Yes, thank you, I did read this prior to sending the query (I cut and paste,
below). Is there another place to go to that would expound further on the issue? Finally, you will sometimes see a small black bullet in the margin next to a paragraph. This indicates that the paragraph is formatted with the €śKeep with next,€ť €śKeep lines together,€ť €śPage break before,€ť or €śSuppress line numbers€ť property. These settings are found on the Line and Page Breaks tab of the Format Paragraph dialog; if you double-click on the €śbullet€ť itself, you will bring up this dialog with the Line and Page Breaks tab selected. Word's built-in Heading styles by default are formatted as €śKeep with next,€ť so you will always see these bullets next to them. Yes, Thank you. You're right, they are to the left of the text, not to the
right. I have read the recommended site you gave. Any further information on this? "Suzanne S. What more do you need to know? Do you not understand what these options do?
They are all well documented in Word's Help. If you click on the ? button in the Format Paragraph dialog, you'll bring up the Help topic that explains them. -- Suzanne S. Sorry. No, I do not understand what these options do. Obviously, that is why
I sent a question. I have been on word's help and am not understanding. I was just asking if there might be another spot that would explain it further. Thank you. "Suzanne S. You can see examples of the effects of some of them at
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/BottomLine.htm. But basically "Keep with next" ensures that a paragraph will always stay with the following paragraph; if that paragraph will not fit on a page and moves to the next page, the previous paragraph goes with it (this is the default formatting for heading styles). "Keep lines together" keeps a paragraph in one block; if the whole paragraph won't fit on a page, it is moved to the next page. "Page break before" makes the paragraph begin a new page regardless of how much text is on the previous page. "Suppress line numbering" turns off line numbering for that paragraph if it is enabled for the entire document. -- Suzanne S.
