Word Shortcut Mystery
As unbelievable as it might sound, my F4 (Repeat action) shortcut has started acting strange. When I type, for example, a name that I want to repeat and press F4, it leaves off the very first letter of the name. Ralph would be alph. I've used this shortcut for years and this problem has only started happening recently. I'm baffled. What could possibly have caused this unwelcome change? |

Word Shortcut Mystery
When you select a word and type text to replace it, Word regards this as two
actions. The first letter you type overwrites the existing text and is counted as a single typing action; then the rest of the word is counted as the second typing action. If you look at the Undo list, you'll see this clearly. Unfortunately, F4 repeats only the most recent action, which doesn't include the first letter. If you're typing the name from scratch in an empty area of the document (not overwriting existing text), then I'm at a loss to explain this behavior. -- Suzanne S. Not sure it will make a difference, but try Control+Y instead of F4. Let us
know either way. HTH |:) Bob Jones [MVP] Office:Mac |

Word Shortcut Mystery
Hi, Suzanne:
I can't remember at this moment if each instance in which it cut off the first letter was during the act of replacing text, but it must have been because I just tried it in a table and the problem did not occur. How in the world did you get so smart, Suzanne?! I'm awfully glad you did! Thanks so much for all you do. "Suzanne S. Word Shortcut Mystery
Hi, Taz:
It seems that it could have happened while replacing text, although I didn't think of that at the time I wrote the email. It worked fine when I tried it in a table. Thanks a million for your input, Taz! "CyberTaz" wrote: Not sure it will make a difference, but try Control+Y instead of F4. Let us know either way. HTH |:) Bob Jones [MVP] Office:Mac |

Thank you for your kind words. In this case I got so smart by noticing the
same annoying effect and deducing (from looking at the Undo list) what was going on. g -- Suzanne S.
