page number problem for a multiple section document with appendixe
I am relatively fluent at Word, but I can't figure this one out:
I have a long, multiple section document with both numerical chapter headings and lettered appendix headings. I have the page numbers set so the chapter # or letter comes before the page number (e.g. 1-1, 1-2...; A-1, A-2...). To do this I set the numbered chapters to heading 1, and the appendix chapters to heading 9. The page numbering works great throughout the entire document, except for the first appendix (appendix A). The page numbers for this section come up as B-1, B-2, etc..., instead of A-1, A-2... The rest of the appendixes have the proper page numbering. I've tried everything I could think of and scoured the internet, but I just can't figure this out. Any ideas??? Thanks |

Hi ?B?SmVzc2VH?=,
My guess would be that there may be a paragraph in there that's being designated as "A". Did you use a manual page break just before the first appendix heading, by any chance? If you delete that and format that paragraph with "Page Break Before" (from Format/Paragraph/Line and Page breaks) does that make a difference? page number problem for a multiple section document with appen
Thanks Cindy- I actually finally fixed the problem, although I still don't
truly understand why it fixed it. For my appendix headings, I had modified heading 9 to be just like heading 1. Turns out I had based heading 9 on heading 1. As soon as I changed it to based on nothing, the problem fixed itself. Happy it worked, but still not sure why basing heading 9 on heading 1 would affect only the 1st appendix section. Thanks anyways for the help Jesse "Cindy M." wrote: Hi ?B?SmVzc2VH?=, My guess would be that there may be a paragraph in there that's being designated as "A". Glad you fixed it, and took a moment here to add the information here :-) I suspect it may have had something to do with the numbering getting mixed up.
