Default Inserted PNG picture doesn't show in Normal View

I pasted a screen capture from PowerPoint to Word 2003 (Windows XP).
It was pasted as a PNG. It doesn't show in Normal View, but only
shows in Print Layout View. However, if I put it inside a Microsoft
Word Object, it shows in Normal View. Is this expected behaviour?
What would the reasoning be for that?

Normal view in Word 2003 only shows objects that have Text Wrapping set to
"In line with text"; if the inserted OLE object was "In line with text" but
the picture was not, that explains why could see one but not the other.
