You could try File | Open with Recover Text from Any File set, might get you
something.

Or dataviz.com makes conversion software, see if any of their offerings are
suitable?

Or if you still have access to Applix Word, see if it will let you save as
text or as RTF?

Otherwise, perhaps someone will come along who's more familiar with the
Applix program.
