Default Numbered list will not continue...

In a numbered list when I hit enter to move on to the next number/letter
instead of continuing the list the list ends. I am not sure what formating
problem this caused by but I have tried switching lists, fonts ect... The top
of the document actually works right but the but the bottom does not? I have
tried to compare the formating for each but the only difference I have come
up with is the fonts as one is in normal and one is in default. This has
happened before to me but I cannot remember how or if I was able to fix the
problem?

Are you pressing Enter after a numbered paragraph containing text or after
an empty numbered paragraph? Has the style changed after you press Enter?

No I am not hitting enter after a empty paragraph, I realize that will not
continue the list. It appears that there is no change in style when hitting
enter.

What is the style of the numbered item? What is the style of the following
unnumbered paragraph? What style is set as the following style for the
numbered style?

I guess I am unsure of what "style" means but it was numbered list that
started with:
I. Heading 1
A. Heading 2
i. Heading 3
Each level had a different font and some were bolded, this was all set up
automatically through the automatic formating of bullets and numbering.

I have since just given up, cleared the formatting, and started over with a
more simple numbered list that doesn't have the alterations in font etc... I
have had this problem before and I should have known better than to use that
type of list for one of my law outlines. I guess it would be nice to know
what is causing this glitch as this type of list is attractive and save some
time formatting each line.

The following style for heading styles (whether numbered or not) is Normal
(which is usually unnumbered). That's why I asked. If you press Enter at the
end of any Heading 1, 2, 3, etc., paragraph, you will get a paragraph in
Normal style. If you want another numbered paragraph in the series, you will
need to reapply the appropriate heading style. If you are using only heading
styles, you may want to change the following style (in the Modify Style
dialog; see http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styl...ifyAStyle.html) to the
same style instead of Normal. You'll also need to disable "Keep with next"
for everything below Heading 1 or 2 or you'll end up with a huge blob all
trying to say on the same page.
