Default Problem with Opening word Document

I have one 30 mb file named 'Test.doc' with some contents stored under
network drive .When i tried to open the 'Test.doc' document from the shared
drive it is taking 12 minutes to open .With same contents of 'Test.doc' i
created another new document named 'test1.doc' and stored under same network
drive.

When i tried to open the 'Test1.doc' document from the shared drive it
is taking only 4 minutes to open .Does anyone have any idea about why it is
happening ? eventhough contents of test.doc

Default Problem with Opening word Document

Files consist of more than just the visible content. Your first file may
have become bloated - you didn't give the file size of Test1.doc. Here are
some things to check, quoted from previous posts of MVP Suzanne S. Barnhill:

There are a number of reasons for excessive file size, including:

1. Fast Saves: Disable this at on the Save tab of Tools | Options.

2. Preview Pictu Clear the check box on the Summary tab of File |

Properties.

3. Versions (File | Versions): Make sure "Automatically save version on

close" is not turned on.

4. Revisions (Tools | Track Changes):

Highlight Changes: Make sure "Highlight changes on screen" is turned on

(or that "Final Showing Markup" is displayed).

Accept/Reject Changes: If "Accept All" or "Reject All" is available then

revisions are present; accept or reject all changes, then turn Track Changes

off.

5. Embedded True Type fonts (Tools | Options | Save); embedding fonts should

be avoided wherever possible.

6. Embedded graphics: When feasible, it is preferable to link the graphics.

That is, when you insert the graphic, click the arrow beside Insert in the

Picture dialog and choose Link to File rather than Insert or Insert and

Link.

7. Embedded objects: These are even worse than ordinary graphics saved with

the document. If you see an { EMBED } code, the graphic is an OLE object.

Unless you need to be able to edit the object in place, unlink it using

Ctrl+Shift+F9.

8. File format: Make sure you are saving as a Word document; in some cases

..rtf (Rich Text Format) files are significantly larger than .doc files.

9. Document corruption: See

http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm.

Smart tags may also be an issue. These can be removed on the Smart Tags tab

of Tools | AutoCorrect Options.

Thanks for your reply ,size of both document (test.doc ,test1.doc ) is 30mb
and it contains around 700 pages also. What i did was copy entire contents
from test.doc and paste the same to test1.doc ,so the size of both test and
test1 is 30mb and 700 pages. But while access from the network it's showing
different response time.

Well, if they're both exactly the same in every other way, I'd probably
mutter something about the fershlugginer nitwits who can't fix Word to work
right just use the fast one. If Test1.doc suddenly becomes very slow also,
then it's time to look at some of these other things.

For instance, when you copied the "entire contents", did that include any
hyperlinks, fields, calculations, or anything else that might have to be
updated upon document open? I once had an Excel file that took almost 15
minutes to open across the network because I had accidentally posted the
version with over 100 hyperlinks.

Also, just for grins and giggles, do you have any of the issues mentioned in
the first reply?
