Default Save and Save As are Greyed out

When I open an existing word document and I want to save it as a different
file, both "Save" and "Save As" are greyed out.

If I create a new word file they are also greyed out but when I close word
it will ask me if I want to save my file and give me the option to name it
and save it to the file I want to store it in. HELP

What version of Word is this?

Save and Save As being grayed out often indicates the presence of a virus,
particularly if you're able to save the file otherwise. If you weren't able
to save the files at all, I would suspect an activation or expired trial
version issue.

Do you have antivirus software installed? Is it up to date?

If it's not a virus problem, and if it's not an activation or expiration
problem, then the steps here usually can resolve problems related to missing
or inactive menu items:

Default Save and Save As are Greyed out

I have Word 2003 SP2...this is not a trial version I've had it for 4 years.
This happened 1 other time and I was told how to fix it, but I can't remember
what they said. I don't think it's a virus, I do have Norton and it is
upgraded.
