Default My customised Word toolbars don't save, why?

I've tried to change toolbars in Word 2003 in the manner I've always used
(Office 97,2000,XP) and whilst it appears to work when I close Word and
re-open the buttons have disappeared. This does not happen if I put up a new
toolbar and it all works fine in other office applications eg Excel
