How do I prevent spell chk from chkg headers/footers in word2003
Using Word 2003. While spell checking documents, would like to skip the
headers/footers of the document. Work in transcription and the information in headers/footers changes constantly, most of it names that are unrecognizable to spell check. Just need to turn "off" the spell check for headers/footers. Cannot find information on it. |

If the headers all have the Header style, and the footers all have the Footer style, then you can modify those two styles to include the "Do not check spelling and grammar" setting. In the Modify Style dialog, select one of the styles, click the Format button, choose Language, and check the box for the setting; repeat for the other style. If for some reason the headers and footers are in some other styles, you may have to select the text and manually apply the "Do not check" setting through the Tools Language Set Language dialog. These settings are easily reversible if you later want to check the headers/footers. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |

Set the paragraph styles used in the headers/footers to no proofing (it's a
language option of the peragarph style configuration) and don't use the same styles in the body of the document. Or open and select the header/footer and set the language option of the selected text to do not check spelling. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org TikiChiki wrote: Using Word 2003.
