TOC:Chapter Numbers in Page Column
Hi all-
I've seen similar questions posted but not quite what I'm trying to do. Hoping someone can help! I have a doc with sections/chapters, etc. I can pull back the chapters on the left side to include chapter numbers fine, but would like the PAGE NUMBER pullback to include the chapters as well. For example: 1.2 How to Bake Cookies........................................... ...................1.2(1) 1.2.1 Chocolate Chip.............................................. ...................1.2(1) 1.3 How to Bake Cakes............................................. ....................1.3(1) Is this possible? I am looking at field codes to see if I can somehow modify them. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

You can do this only if you include the chapter number in the page number.

Suzanne-
You are a Word Goddess and a boon to humanity. However, this article (I've seen it repeatedly) ony works assuming that the chapter #'s are all on dif. pages. In my case, I could have 1.2, 1.2.1, 1.3 all on the same page. So Word pulls back the first chapter # in the footer as the page number (1.2 -1). The TOC will then pull this back. As stated earlier, I need the page numbers as well as the ch.#'s on the right hand side of the TOC. Someone please tell me Word can't do this so I can stop pulling my hair out! Thanks in advance : ) "Suzanne S. Barnhill" wrote: You can do this only if you include the chapter number in the page number. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Numbering/ChapterNumber.htm -- Suzanne S. I'm afraid that the page number field can reference a *specific*
heading level, only. -- Stefan Blom "DavisSon" wrote in message ... Suzanne- You are a Word Goddess and a boon to humanity. Ah, I see what you're trying to do now. If the chapter headings are
numbered, the numbering should appear at the left, before your chapter title, and I'm afraid that's all you'll be able to achieve with an automatic TOC. -- Suzanne S. Thanks to all - I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. What you've both
responded makes sense and gives me closure. Thanks again! "Suzanne S. Barnhill" wrote: Ah, I see what you're trying to do now.
