I've been trying to create 1-2 column tables in Word to store comments from
surveys we do. Whenever the table goes beyond 1 page, Word comes to a crawl
and has a large lag between when I type and when it appears on screen. We use
Word 2002 on WIndows XP. Anybody have any ideas on this? Thanks.

You might also want to try turning off any "real time virus scan" that is
active on your computer. A real time scan will scan everything while you
type it - which can slow down your typing in a large table.
