Default Word documents created in Office 2000 will not open in Word 2003

We are in the process of transferring from Windows 2000 with Office 2000 to
Windows XP with Office 2003. The problem is that we have a large quantity of
Word documents created in Office 2000 that do not open in Office 2003. I do
not know if it is a problem in Office 2003 or Wndows XP

The 2 versions use the same file format so there shouldn't be a problem if
the installations are done properly. Can you be more specific - What happens
when you try to open them? Are you attempting to open by double-clicking a
file icon or through Word's FileOpen command? Is everything fully updated -
what Service Packs?

Default Word documents created in Office 2000 will not open in Word 20

I first get a pop-up saying "Do you want to Open or Save this file", if I
click "Open" I get a message box asking "Do you want to Save this file?".
When I click "Save" I get the error message "Word was unable to read this
document. It may be corrupt...."
