I have a master file fro example named - X1Master. It is linked to the
55 different files which are password protected. When I open my Master
file it does not update the info from all the files unless they are
alsready open. Is there a way to write a macro whcih helps update the
data without opening allt he file....

would appreciate any help.

Impossible request. As the data resides in those documents, the only
way to update them is by opening them. A macro can do it.
