Outline numbered styles
I created an outline style in Word 2002 with the format using the
legal numbering notation i.e. 1/1.1/1.1.1/etc. I saved the document as a template and then created a document based on that template. I then applied the new style in this document and created the list perfectly. When I wanted to decrease a level I pressed the Tab key and Shift+Tab when needed to increase the level. Still all worked OK. I transferred the template to another of my systems, still with Word 2002. I carried out the same operation as above on the new computer and the Tab and Shift+Tab key sequences did not work. They merely had the effect of adding an existing tabbed space to the numbered paragraph instead of decreasing/increasing the level. I tried the Decrease Indent and Increase Indent buttons on the formatting toolbar and they worked correctly. I finally had a look in Tools|AutoCorrect Options|AutoFormat as you type section and all seemed to be as expected. Is there something in this second computer which has been "switched off" preventing the correct operation of the Tab and Shift+Tab sequence when working with outline numbered styles? Thanks for any help which might be suggested. Roderick |

Outline numbered styles
....aaaahhh. That's why the little critter didn't work!
Checked the box and outline styles work as they should. I wonder how I managed to un-check it...? Thanks for your help, Suzanne. Roderick On Sun, 4 Jun 2006 10:56:40 -0500, "Suzanne S. Barnhill" wrote: To clarify, the box for "Set left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces" is checked? |
