Default Spell check

In Word 2003, after spell checking a document, you would get a message
telling you if your document had text tagged with "Do not check spelling or
grammar" saying that "text marked do not check spelling or grammar" was
ignored. Word 2007 doesn't always let you know that text tagged with "Do not
check spelling or grammar" was ignored.

The only way I know to avoid this is to select the entire document, then go
to Review/Language/then unselect "Do not check spelling or grammar", then
spell check.

Is there a setting I'm missing in my options for Word to always let me know
if any text is marked with "do not check spelling or grammar"?

Can you give us an example of circumstances when Word fails to display the
warning message?

Default Spell check

I was trying to force the message box in order to take a screen shot for my
article at http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/SpecialFind.htm. When I ran
spell check on a text selection that was *all* formatted as "Do not check"
(my lorem ipsum text), I found that I didn't get the message unless I had
"Check grammar with spelling" enabled.

OK, that is annoying. :-(

Personally, I turn off the automatic spellcheck but I do leave "Check
grammar with spelling" on, which explains why I haven't seen the issue.

Default Spell check

What confused me was that I'd had no trouble bringing up the box before, and
I hadn't intentionally changed any settings. I don't ever use explicit spell
check (just "Check spelling as you type," without "Check grammar as you
type"), so I hadn't really paid attention to whether that box was checked.

Default Spell check

I prefer "Check spelling as you type" because I can easily ignore the
markings I know are irrelevant, whereas if I run spell check manually then I
have to keep clicking Ignore or Ignore All past all the "words not in the
dictionary" to get to the few actual typos (most of which would already have
been caught by "Check spelling as you type").
