Default character codes for Chinese characters

Are there any character codes (i.e. ASCII or unicode) that work in Word to
find/replace Chinese characters?

Yes: the codes that correspond to the characters you want to find and
replace.

Better question: how do I find the codes? In the past, I've always been able
to identify the character codes by highlighting the foreign character and
using the Insert-Symbol command. As long as the character is highlighted,
Word usually displays the selected character and it's code. However, when I
try this with a Chinese character, I get a blank box and the character code
for white space.
