severing cross-reference links
I am writing an article for a scientific journal. My references are in the
form of a numbered list at the end of the document. I am using the cross-reference tool to insert the reference number in the text of the document. While I am editing the document, I want the cross-reference links to stay active so that when I add a new reference the reference numbers in the text will be updated automatically. However the journal that I am submitting the article to will not accept a document with these links in it. Is there a way to sever the links so that they are no longer active before I submit the document without actually deleting the reference from the text? |

severing cross-reference links
When you are ready to submit the document, make a copy of the
file for the journal, and in the copy, unlink the cross-reference fields by selecting them and pressing Ctrl+Shift+F9. If you have no fields other than cross-references in the document, then you can press Ctrl+A to select all, and then press Ctrl+Shift+F9 to unlink all.
