Default Formatting for Hotmail clients

Hi - I've written an HTML email using XMLSpy, saved it as html (also tried
..mht extension), imported it to Word 2003, and performed a mailmerge using my
Outlook 2003 Cantacts folder. I'm not inserting any fields into the body of
the email - simply using the Contacts database to address the email. This
appears to work fine, and the result display perfectly in Outlook, Outlook
Express, Mozilla - however, in Hotmail, a number of "special" characters are
inserted, apparently at random, but most noticeably where I have used the
tags for bold emphasis (strong ) & bulleted (li). Can anyone tell me how
to rectify this, or suggest an alternative approach?

Not really - the recipients have all opted for html mail, so I think that
they will be disappointed with plain text!

As you have no control over the way in which the recipients will view your
email (the prudent thing is to have them all displayed as plain text for
security reasons), what you are trying to do is probably a waste of time.
