Default error in system32\autoexec.nt

i am trying to install a copy of office 97 SBE on my laptop which runs on XP
home, but when i try to install i get the message
" c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt . the system file is not suitable for
running MS-DOS and microsft windows applications"
what can i do to get it working ?

See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=324767 "Error message when you
install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit Windows-based program". If you
have installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, you may encounter other
problems during the Office 97 installation... if it happens, write back.
