how to get Word to default open in "Print Layout"
My Word documents default to "Read Layout" now and I'm constantly
having to change it to "Print Layout" to edit them. Is there a way I can force it to default to "Print Layout"? |

how to get Word to default open in "Print Layout"
You can go to Tools Options General and uncheck "Allow starting in
Reading Layout". Typically, documents opened by double-clicking a Word attachment to an email want to open in Reading Layout. The best advice is: NEVER open a Word attachment that way unless ALL you want to do is read it. The problem is that a document opened that way is stored in a temporary folder. If you edit the document and save, the changes affect only the file in the temp folder. As soon as you close the document, the temp folder goes away and all your changes are lost. Instead, SAVE the attachment to a permanent folder, then open it there to do the editing. I've unclicked it - and it shows unclicked when I go back to it but it
still opens in reading layout. Jay Freedman wrote: You can go to Tools Options General and uncheck "Allow starting in Reading Layout".
