Underlining words
When I am typing along, and I want a word underlined, I type Ctrl-u, the
word, then Ctrl-u again, then the space after the word. However, this Un-underlines the word. What gives?? At this point, I have to go back and highlight the word, then underline it again. or let the space be underlined, then go back and un-underline the space. Most people do not want the space after the word underlined, this is not proper. What can I do to get this to work the way I need it to work? Am I doomed to go back through every document and underline each word one at a time? Thanks for your help and your patience. |

Underlining words
If you don't want *any* spaces underlined (even in continuous runs of
underlining), you can use Word Underline (Ctrl+Shift+W), but I'm not sure what to tell you to do to accomplish the result you want without doing that. Although I rarely use underlining, I can recall being annoyed by this behavior with bold and italic formatting in the past. This seems to have been fixed in Word 2003, as I can't now replicate it. I had thought that perhaps it would be affected by the setting of the "When selecting, automatically select entire word" option on the Edit tab of Tools | Options, but that seems to make no difference in Word 2003; you might check to see if it helps in your version. -- Suzanne S.
