when i try to insert words into a adocument by pressing the space bar to make
space before words,they get deleted rather than new space formed...never used
to happen like that before!

Sounds like you are in "Overtype" mode. Check the bottom toolbar and see if
OVR is black. If it is, double click to turn overtype off. Alternately,
click Tools Options, click the Edit tab and uncheck "Overtype mode".
