Default Fields in headers won't update automtically on Print Preview

I have some fields in the header and footer of my document which I want to
update easily (without using any coding or a macro).

The fields are set to update on printing (and do update when I print them
out). My understanding was that they would also update automatically on
print preview but this does not happen.

I am using Word 2003. Anyone got any ideas?

Which fields. Different fields act differently. REF fields are particularly
problematic and easily replaced with StyleRef fields even though doing so
isn't especially intuitive.

Hi Charles,

I've set-up some custom file properties so the fields I am using are all
DocProperty fields.

Thanks,

Simon

I think that when you switch to print preview and then back, the fields will
update. Note that there is a difference between Print View and Print
Preview.

I have been switching to Print Preview and back but it's only when I actually
print the document that these fields update.

Do these fields update themselves when you change the input in PROPERTIES?
How is it possible to do this.
