Default Template link prevents word doc from opening

We have been receiving file from clients that do not open with Word 2003, but
Office 2000 will allow these to be opened from a WinME client.

Removing the template link (while in ME) and saving the file allows the
document to be opened in Word 2003. Obviously the document is searching our
network for the template link, but never finds it.

Is there an easy solution to fix this??

See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=830561 "Documents that have attached
templates take a long time to open in Word 2002".

There is not. Once the document is open, use:

Tools Templates and Add-Ins...

Attach the normal.dot template to the document. Be sure that the box to
update styles is _not_ checked. Thereafter, it will open normally. Your
client could do this before sending you the file if they are that
considerate of your time.
