Return Address along Left Side of Envelope
OK, MVPs, here's my challenge for you...
I'm doing some work for a woman who can be very inflexible about what she wants. What she wants now is for the envelopes she prints on MS Word 2003 (PC) to look like the envelopes she used to print on her Mac. On the Mac, she had a template set up and she manually filled it out. I'd like to set-up the Envelope wizard to automatically address the properly formatted envelopes for her when she types a letter, though. Here's the issue: Her return address uses her logo and runs along the lefthand side of the envelope, rather than in the upper left corner. I know how to create a graphic with the logo and save it to EnvelopeExtra1, and it comes up just fine and in the correct position. The problem is since it uses the entire left side of the envelope from top to bottom, it pushes the outgoing address to the next page. If I use "add to document" for the envelope, the result is two envelopes before the document: one with only the return address and one with only the outgoing address. How do I get both the envelope return and the envelope address to stay on one page? I know I'm going to have to tweak styles, which is fine, I just haven't been able to figure out what tweak I need specifically. Which brings me to question number two... Is there any way to download the Word-provided default styles? In my attempts to solve this problem, I seem to have corrupted the frames of the "Envelope Address" and "Envelope Return" styles. Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, -J. |

Hi Jason,
It sounds like you're going to have to resize the logo to be just slightly smaller, to allow the anchor of the frame in the Envelope Address style to fit under it without going to the next page. You might also try setting the text wrapping of the logo to In Front of Text, to see if the anchor can sit behind it instead of below it. Then reload it into the EnvelopeExtra1 autotext. To restore the original frame for the Envelope Address style (the default Envelope Return style doesn't have a frame), the easiest method may be to just modify the settings back to the default values: Wrapping = Around, Width = Exactly 5.5", Height = Exactly 1.375", Horizontal position = Center relative to page & Distance from text = 0.125", Vertical position = Bottom relative to margin & Distance = 0. To add to what Jay has said, if you "delete" the Envelope Address style, it
will be reset to the default Normal.dot settings. If the style appears in the Styles and Formatting task pane (using any of the Show settings), click the arrow beside it and choose Delete. If (as is likely) not, choose Custom in the Show box. This opens the Format Settings dialog. At the bottom, click on Styles..., which opens the Style dialog. Choose "Styles in use," select Envelope Address, and click Delete. -- Suzanne S. In addition to Jay's comments, you may find
http://www.gmayor.com/Alternative_Return_Addresses.htm provides some useful background - and personally for this job I would create an envelope template with the graphics places exactly as you want them (like the airmail example referred to on my web site) and forget the envelope wizard. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Jason Roberts wrote: OK, MVPs, here's my challenge for you...
